HEAT
An original work choreographed on Houston Contemporary, HEAT takes the ecology of Houston and parallels it with the socio-political climate of Texas. The performers enter the stage completely soaked in what appears to be sweat and begin to move with the intensity of the musical score Red Sex by Vessel.
When temperatures rise, so do homicide rates. Heat domes make it a safety hazard to be outside. People protect their skin with films of sunscreen or layers of clothing. Hydration is key. Living in Texas requires a certain level of protection from the oppressive politics surrounding us. How can we stay hydrated when data centers are sucking up the water and immense drought is drying up Texas rivers? How can we protect ourselves when our rights are being infringed and people are kidnapped and sent to detention centers. Immigration rights, reproductive rights, land protection, anti-surveillance. HEAT takes the state of exhaustion and amplifies it with rigorous choreography.
